Safety on AwaAgent
What we check, what we don't, and the rules that protect every visit.
Rules for every inspection
No viewing fees
Never pay anyone at the property. An agent who asks for a viewing fee is banned from AwaAgent.
Your code is for the agent at the door
Read your six-digit code aloud to the agent named on the listing at the visit. Never send it by phone, text or chat.
Rent is held until you have the keys
When online payment opens, your rent is held and only paid out after you confirm you have the keys. It isn't open yet, so don't transfer rent to anyone directly.
Questions from a set list
Ask the agent about power, water, parking, access or the move-in date from a set list. There is no free chat, so no one can renegotiate the price or ask for payment outside the app.
What each check means
Identity review
What happensTenants, agents and landlords submit ID documents. An AwaAgent reviewer approves or rejects them by hand.
What it doesn't coverIt confirms who holds the account. It does not check someone's history or guarantee their conduct.
Listing review
What happensAn AwaAgent reviewer looks at each listing before it goes live, and agents can only list homes a landlord has authorised them to represent.
What it doesn't coverWe do not visit every property. Your inspection is where you confirm the home matches the listing.
Agent assignment
What happensEach listing names the agent who handles its inspections. That agent enters your code at the property to confirm the visit.
What it doesn't coverIf someone else meets you and asks for your code, do not give it.
Payment
What happensPlan checkout, when available, is handled from your AwaAgent account. Online rent collection and deposit custody are not open yet.
What it doesn't coverMoney sent outside your AwaAgent account has no record with us and we cannot trace it.
On the day of your visit
- 1
Go in daylight and tell someone where you are going.
- 2
Check the agent's name matches the one on the listing before you share your code.
- 3
Do not pay a viewing fee or any money at the property.
- 4
Ask about deposits and fees, and get the full amount before you decide.
